Why you? Why Now?
Hello and welcome, so glad you’re here! So, the question is...Why you? Why now? Why podcast now? Well, if we were both first graders and you asked me that question, the simple answer would be:” Cause...” But we’re not both in OshKosh B’gosh hoping that our favorite rerun of Knight Rider will be on at dinner tonight, we’re adult-like. Fast forward to here we are, and the answer isn’t that dissimilar, but I’d like to put it in a more dignified fashion if you don’t mind.
Podcasting is the embodiment of a voice. And what is a voice? Why is it important to have one? Is it important to have one? Statistics matter in most cases, however with podcasting, we feel that simply the action of conceiving of one and doing it matters most. If it’s just for you, for your friends and family or if it’s for the world, you should podcast. But we’ve got some insights (from podcastinsights.com) that are compelling:
- 50% of ALL homes are podcast fans (60 million)
- 55% of the US population has listened to a podcast (up from 51% in 2019)
- Podcast listeners listen to an average of 7 different shows per week
- Podcast listeners are more likely to follow brands on social media
- 74% of podcast listeners listen to learn something new
And you know what? South Korea leads the world in the percentage of people who have listened to a podcast in the last month at 58% That’s over half of 51.2 million people. So, podcasts are not a fad or a trend; in fact, we think they’re quite important and very necessary. According to fullscript.com, Doctors are reported to use podcasts in order to be better at empathy and perspective and podcasts are listed on a list of legit stress relievers. To be able to do one easily, inexpensively and in comfort is the best possible scenario and whether you use a studio or podcast at home, it is all very possible.
There are many resources available to show you what you need to do in order to record a podcast. A laptop, USB microphone and headphones are the quick answer. But the question remains: Why? Does it feel silly to you? Are you just a person, with a passion and an idea, but you think “who am I to be recording a podcast?” “I don’t know how I’d sit in front of a microphone and just...talk?” Or, “I work for a non-profit, we have a message, and this is the time, more than ever that we need to share that message, but...” the same thoughts above? Why me/us? Because you can do this. You can share your message with an audience and have your voice be heard. Podcasting, whether it is on your own or with a co-host/team is a conversation, it is camaraderie. It is meant to be fun and to deliver the content you wish to deliver. It helps connect people who may yearn for connection on a topic that they may have thought would never be a shared subject. Whether it be a passion podcast, a company podcast or anything outside and in between you should podcast. NLM is passionate about podcasting in all forms and we want to help you share your voice.
